The main hypotheses include:<br \/>\nCentral nervous system dysfunction, with a form of \u201ccentral sensitization\u201d similar to fibromyalgia.<br \/>\nAlterations in oxidative metabolism or hepatic detoxification mechanisms (e.g., variants in CYP450 or GST genes).<br \/>\nPsychoneuroimmunological component, with amplified response to environmental stimuli.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Differential diagnosis<br \/>\n<\/strong>It is essential to rule out other conditions with similar symptoms, such as:<br \/>\nAllergies or asthma<br \/>\nAutoimmune diseases<br \/>\nAnxiety or somatoform disorders<br \/>\nIntoxication or specific work exposures<\/p>\n<p><strong>Treatment and management<br \/>\n<\/strong>There is no single, recognized therapy. The most commonly used approaches include:<br \/>\nReducing exposure to triggers (use of \u201cfragrance-free\u201d materials and products).<br \/>\nPsychological and cognitive-behavioral support to reduce anxiety associated with exposures.<br \/>\nSupportive treatments for symptoms (vitamins, antioxidants, physiotherapy).<\/p>\n<p>If the topic is of interest I point out the book \u201cTotal Sensitivity\u201d by Loris Pasinato.
